This picture was over 40 years in the making...

I never took up karate in my childhood under my father who was a Sensei (Karate Teacher). He currently holds the rank of 10th degree black belt, and has been involved in Karate for over 50 years.

After retiring from the military and moving back home, I decided it was time to take up karate.  He agreed to give me private lessons and we now train 2 times a week for 3 hours or more per session.  I then practice on my own daily of at least 1 hours per day.

I have been steadily moving towards the asian arts that have helped me tremendously with anxiety, relaxation, sleep, fitness and overall health.  I have been practicing yoga for 5 years and have received much benefit from it. Something was missing though and I feel karate will fill that gap.  Karate in its purest sense is all about Mastering One's Self - specifically one's Mind, Body and Spirit. You could say that Karate found me when I needed it most.

My dad is now giving me private lessons. I will keep you up to date in my blogs as to my progress.  Since my dad is a fairly quiet person when it comes to martial arts, and the art itself demands humility, there won't be much in the way of specifics...rather more insight into my journey and whether Karate helps me towards my overall life goals. Wish me luck!
